Next-Generation - SOGFAST Technology

SOGFAST is the fastest broadband currently available. It is an enhanced version of Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC). SOGFAST enables the end user to achieve speeds up to four times faster than traditional FTTC broadband with a potential maximum download speed of 330Mb. Previously the only way to get faster broadband speeds was to get a Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) connection but this isn’t available in all areas, which is where SOGFAST can help.

SOGFAST works in a very similar way to FTTC but with a special pod fitted to the side of the PCP cabinet, although the technology may also be delivered from smaller nodes / distribution points (dp) that can be built either underground (manholes) or placed on top of nearby telegraph poles. Related nodes would be fed directly by fibre optic cable and may be powered either by a small nearby supply unit or directly from premises (reverse power).

Unlike FTTP broadband, speeds over SOGFAST are likely to fluctuate widely depending on length of the copper line and sources of noise & interference, by which full-fibre broadband products such as FTTP are not affected.

If the copper line length to the SOGFAST cabinet is under 300 metres, you may reach download speeds of up to 330Mb down and 50Mb up, which is a considerable jump up from the next fastest copper-line broadband service of FTTC, where the maximum speed is 80Mb download and 20Mb upload.
